AGM 2011

The Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre 2011 AGM was held on Wednesday October 19th
with approximately 45 attendees in our newly refurbished hall.

Presenations by the Centre Coordinator and the Housing Services Coordinator outlined the years achievements
and both gave special thanks to all our wonderful volunteers.

Councillor for Tennyson Ward, Nicole Johntson took the floor for the election of the management committee.
Bill Salm was re-elected as President as were Greg Nelson, Secretary and Geoff King as Treasurer.
John Rigsby-Jones was re- elected as Vice-President.

The formalities were followed by a buffet dinner served by the centre staff.

And the Winner is.......

Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre recently won the Quest Newspapers/Suncorp Bank
Business Achievers Award for Community Service and Non Profit Organisations

Centre Manager Marg Smith who accepted the Award said the Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre
Management Committee and staff would like to thank those wonderful
community members who entered our organisation into the Business Achievers Awards
It was an honour to win and receive the award

Our 2010 Annual General Meeting was held on 27th October with approximately 50 attendees.
Presenations by the Centre Coordinator and the Housing Services Coordinator outlined the years achievements
and both gave special thanks to all our wonderful volunteers.

Councillor for Tennyson Ward, Nicole Johntson took the floor for the election of a new committee.
Maryla Rutyna handed over the reins of President to Bill Salm
but remains on the committee as Immediate Past-President.
Greg Nelson was re-elected as Secretary as was Geoff King as Treasurer.
John Rigsby-Jones was elected as Vice-President.

The formalities were followed by a buffet dinner served by the centre staff.

 


National Neighbourhood Centre Week was celebrated concurrently with
National Volunteers week on Wednesday 12th May 2010 with a BBQ lunch
Over 30 volunteers were recognised for their invaluable service to the centre
with a certificate and words of thanks from the President of the
Management Committee, Maryla Rutyna


 

Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre Celebrated it's 30th Anniversary with
"A Pearl of an Evening" in conjunction with
the Annual General Meeting on Wenesday 5th August 2009

The halls were festooned with pearl coloured balloons and press articles and pictures
from past to present decorated the front hall to be admired and commented on
by everyone while enjoying pre-dinner drinks and nibbles.

Following the formalities our distinguished guests joined with the newly elected
management committee and members and friends of the centre to be treated
to an historic powerpoint presentation showing the growth of the centre
from it's humble beginnings to the present day.

Foundation members were acknowledged and tributes given to three of our
volunteers who sadly passed away this year.
Everyone then enjoyed a 3-course meal while being entertained by
a local Jazz Trio followed by a progressive raffle
with all the prizes donated by the local business community.

Our SEALS group celebrated their 10th anniversary with a BBQ lunch in our courtyard
on a beautiful sunny day on 11th August.

 

What a wonderful turnout of nearly 100 people to help us celebrate
National Neighbourhood Week and National Volunteer Week on Wednesday 13th May.
Julie Attwood, State Member for Mt Ommaney (a long time supporter of the centre)
and Councillor Nicole Johnson of Tennyson Ward were present to officially open our
new Community Courtyard with the unveiling of a magnificent plinth
depicting many aspects of the Neighbourhood Centre thanks to
countless hours of work by our Western Suburbs Clay Workers group.
