The Housing Service of Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre is assisted
by the Qld Department of Communities and Department of Housing
to provide specialist homelessness services to individuals or families
who are homeless or at risk of homelessness

The program aims to assist individuals and families who are homeless,
through the provision of support and accommodation
in temporary accommodation for periods of up to 12 months

Clients who are accommodated work with staff
on developing a case plan which will identify issues which are
relevant to addressing the clients' housing and support needs
Participation in such support is a condition of accommodation

This support can include and is not limited to ~

  • Assistance with applications to housing providers
  • Addressing TICA listings
  • Budgeting
  • Advocacy
  • Parenting skills
  • Referrals to specialist services
e.g.Domestic violence counselling, drug and alcohol counselling, financial counselling and health services
  • Assistance with accessing legal support
  • Emotional support
  • Transport to appointments
  • Improving self esteem

Application
Applications are taken by phone or by appointment
by phoning the agency during office hours
Referrals are taken from other agencies

Details are taken from each applicant and when a vacancy exists
interviews are conducted and accommodation offered
on a needs based assessment
Consideration is given to the size and location of the property being
matched appropriately to the client's needs and agency limitations

When the service is unable to offer accommodation,
staff can provide information and referral to other housing providers
