Our commitment

At Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre, we are dedicated to providing vital support to individuals and families in need within our local community. Our commitment is to ensure that no one faces hardship alone. We offer practical, compassionate services to help those who need a little extra support during challenging times.

Serving Our Neighbours

We are proud to serve a wide range of suburbs in our area, ensuring that residents across these communities can access our services. The suburbs we service include: Chapel Hill, Chelmer, Corinda, Fig Tree Pocket, Graceville, Indooroopilly, Jamboree Heights, Jindalee, Kenmore, Kenmore Hills, Middle Park, Moggill, Mt Ommaney, Oxley, Riverhills, Seventeen Mile Rocks, Sherwood, Sinnamon Park, Sumner, and Westlake.

Accessing the centre

Our centre is committed to ensuring accessibility for all community members. We have ramp access to both the Centre’s halls and office, ensuring ease of entry for those with mobility challenges.

While the closest train station, Sherwood, is not fully wheelchair accessible, the Corinda train station offers wheelchair access and is just a 12-minute walk from the Centre.

We recognize the expertise of people with disabilities and offer tailored support, respecting their lived experiences.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to bring a support person to assist them in engaging with our services.

Interpreter services are available upon request to assist non-English speaking clients.

Community support services

  • Food Assistance

We understand that access to food is essential, especially during times of crisis. Our centre provides free food, including bread and other essentials, to help alleviate some of the burden for those experiencing financial difficulties. No one should go hungry, and we are here to provide nourishment and support when it’s needed most.

  • Acknowledging Traditional Custodians

Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre acknowledges the Jagera (Yuggera) and Turrbul peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work. We recognise their ongoing connection to the land, waters, and community, and we pay respect to their Elders past, present, and emerging. We celebrate the cultural distinctions of the First Nations peoples and are committed to justice and inclusion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

  • Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We also honour the contributions of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and intersex communities, whose efforts have improved the health and wellbeing of their peers, families, and communities. We celebrate the diversity of people’s bodies, genders, sexualities, and relationships, and strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone is respected and valued.
