housing services
helping the homeless
Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre delivers a Specialist Homelessness Service (SHS) which is funded by the Queensland Government.
This program aims to support people as they deal with the issues that have led them to becoming homeless or at risk of this. We are also able to work with people to access the Queensland Homelessness Information Platform, including a Vacancy Register and the Common Homelessness Assessment and Referral Tool.
Case Management Approach
Our case management is tailored to the client’s needs and may include:
Short-term emergency accommodation support
General support
Information and advocacy
Living skills development
Court and personal support, particularly in relation to families and relationships
Additional Support Services
We also provide basic items and information about local services, including:
Meals
Showers
Medical services
Linking with Supports
We help clients connect with a range of services to overcome barriers to stable accommodation.
We are culturally aware in supporting our First Nations and Torres Strait Islander people and link into supporting services.
Diversity and Special Needs
Our team values diversity and is equipped to respond to people with special needs. Interpreter services are available when needed.
Support for Newly Arrived Queenslanders
Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre supports refugees, migrants, international students, and people seeking asylum. We aim to foster an inclusive Queensland where all new Queenslanders can contribute to and engage with a multicultural society. We address cultural needs by recognizing clients' cultural expertise and providing access to cultural support services and TIS National’s interpreting services.
